Choose through a controlled line trial based on the actual filled container, pack transitions, conveyor chain and guide materials, speed range, accumulation pressure, water chemistry, floor and drainage design, hygiene program and chemical compatibility. Wet systems can provide continuous diluted lubrication but add water, overspray and effluent-management duties. Dry or semi-dry systems can reduce added water but require suitable chemistry, accurate zoned application, clean surfaces and confirmation that friction remains stable across formats and soil conditions. Review food-contact risk and registered or approved product status for the destination and application. Measure coefficient-of-friction behavior or agreed operational proxies, bottle stability, jams, residue, worker exposure, cleaning and wastewater effects before release.

Map filled bottles from capper discharge through inspection, labelling, accumulation and packing. Record bottle base geometry, mass, material, center of gravity, label type, temperature, conveyor chain, guide material, slope, curves, merges and accumulation zones. Include every approved format and the slowest and fastest intended conditions. A treatment that works on one straight conveyor may behave differently at a high-pressure accumulation table or around a labeler where residue affects adhesion.

A wet system usually meters a diluted solution through nozzles or distribution points; a dry or semi-dry system applies a smaller controlled amount using chemistry and hardware designed for that duty. Document concentration or application setting, zone logic, pump, monitoring, line interlock and low-level response. Ask what happens during prolonged stops, cleaning and restart. The selection should include maintainability of brushes, nozzles, lines and controls, not only chemical consumption.

The conveyor must move bottles without excessive back pressure, tipping, scuffing or uncontrolled gaps. Agree a measurement method or operational test appropriate to the line and record surface condition, chemistry, application, format and time since cleaning. Observe critical transfers and accumulation rather than relying only on a laboratory coupon. Track jams and micro-stops with location and cause evidence. A lower friction reading is not automatically better if bottles become unstable or packer spacing is lost.

Review whether lubricant can reach bottles, closures, food-contact surfaces, labels, floors or drains. Confirm the product is suitable and controlled for its intended use and destination; “food grade” does not permit careless application. Assess residue, soil retention, microbial or pest concerns, slip exposure, mist or splash and cleaning-chemical interaction. For wet systems, map water and effluent load. For lower-water systems, verify the cleaning method removes accumulated residue and restores a known surface condition.

Prepare the conveyor to a known clean condition and baseline current performance before changing system or chemistry. Trial representative formats through startup, steady running, accumulation, short stops and restart. Record application settings, water quality where used, surface condition, friction evidence, jams, bottle quality, labels, floor condition, cleaning effort and drain observations. Assign acceptance criteria from the plant and equipment requirements rather than adopting a supplier savings claim. Update operating, cleaning, chemical and maintenance procedures after approval.

Not necessarily. The track-treatment step may use little or no added water, but the conveyor still requires an approved cleaning method and the surrounding process can introduce water during sanitation or operation.
Do not assume it. Bottle base, mass, label, chain, speed, accumulation and surface condition change the result. Approve the system across the actual format envelope and record any format-specific settings.
